Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri women's soccer team capped off a successful 2004 spring season this afternoon with a win against Drake. With this afternoon's 2-0 victory over Drake, the Tigers finished their pre-season schedule with a 3-0-1 record.
Drake started the game putting pressure on the Missouri defense. Drake made several runs deep into the Tigers' zone, but their efforts were stifled by Missouri defenders. Drake was able to keep pressure on the Tigers' defense for the majority of the first half, but the MU defense held strong and shut out the Drake offense.
Missouri started the second half on the offensive. The Tigers put relentless pressure on the Drake defense. Jennifer Nobis led Missouri into the Drake zone as she made a run down the right side of the field and crossed a pass to Aria Hudetz, but Hudetz got tangled up with the Drake goalie and a defender before being able to get a shot off.
With just over fifteen minutes remaining in the game Missouri was again deep in the Drake zone pressuring the defense. Nobis headed a shot at the Drake goal that was blocked, but Shea Swoboda came in and blasted the rebound into the back of the net giving MU a 1-0 lead.
Just a few minutes later the Tigers worked their way back into the Drake zone. Karen Bauer lofted a corner kick at the Drake goal that was sent out, but Bauer swept up the ball and lofted the ball right back to the far post where Swoboda was ready and waiting to head the ball past Drake's goalie. Swoboda's second goal of the game gave Missouri a 2-0 lead. Missouri would hold on to their lead giving goalie Kira Reyes her second shut-out of the spring season.
