Men's Golf in 16th at Rain-Shortened ASU Indian Classic

April 12, 2004

JONESBORO, Ark. - Freshman John Kelly (St. Louis, Mo. / Christian Brothers College HS) shot a team-best 3-over-par 75 in the first round of the ASU Indian Classic, held Monday at Ridge Point Country Club.

Kelly is in a tie for 47th place after the first round, which was delayed until noon by inclement weather. That forced tournament organizers to shorten the tournament to just Monday's and Tuesday's single rounds; as with most regular-season college tournaments, the Tigers were scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday.

Seniors Michael Radek (Chicago, Ill. / St. Ignatius HS) and David Jenkins (Springfield, Mo. / Glendale HS / SMS) each shot 76 to enter the final round in a tie for 53rd place.

As a team, Missouri is in 16th out of 18 teams following an aggregate team total of 304. That is 17 strokes behind the first-round leaders; Southern Miss, South Florida, SMS, Iowa State and North Texas each shot 1-under 287 on the day. The Tigers are two strokes behind Illinois State, and just six strokes from moving into the top 10.

Sophomore Ben Scott (Lancashire, U.K.) and freshman Trent Twaddle (Maryville, Mo. / Maryville HS) are tied for 61st after shooting 77s.

Tuesday's final round is set to begin at 8 a.m.
