Lafayette, La-In the final game of the Ragin Cajun Mardi Gras Tournament the Tigers beat the Lady Panthers of Prairie View A&M University 9-0.
Starting in the circle was junior Erin Kalka. She had eleven strikeouts and two walks for the game with one hit and no runs before freshman Erica Petersen came in pitching relief in the fifth inning.
The Tigers started the scoring in the first inning getting a home run from freshman outfielder Leanne Bowers, her second on the season making the score 1-0
The Tigers had three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Sophomore catcher Morgan Kent advanced home on a single by sophomore Kendra Power, and junior Ashley Hays and sophomore Kendra Power both advanced home on a single to left field by freshman second baseman Sarah Stringer, making the score 4-0 in the bottom of the second .
The Panthers received their first hit in the top of the fourth inning on a single through the right center by left fielder Rosaline Ash and then advanced to second base on a Tiger passed ball. The Panthers were able to get the bases loaded when catcher Kimberley Fernandez walked and first baseman Christina Reyes advanced on a Tiger error but pitcher Erin Kalka struck out the next three batters to end the inning.
The Tigers got another run from junior Ashley Hays in the bottom of the fourth inning when Hays scored on a throwing error making the score 5-0. The Tigers were able to make the score 9-0 on an inside the park home run by junior shortstop Heather Kunkel and runs scored on Panther errors by junior outfielder Ashley Hays, freshman outfielder Leanne Bowers and senior outfielder Morgan LeCluyse.
The Tigers were nine for ten on the day with no walks. Freshman outfielder Leanne Bowers had one stolen base on the day and freshman second baseman Sarah Stringer had two RBI's while freshman outfielder Leanne Bowers and sophomore third baseman Kendra Power both had one RBI en route to the Tigers 9-0 win.
The Tigers went 2-3 on the weekend will be in action at home next weekend for the Annual Black and Gold Game at University Field.
