In the second game of the day the #4 seeded Tigers lost to the #1 seeded Stanford Cardinal 5-2 in bracket play at the Stanford Invitational. The winning play came in the sixth inning when Cardinal senior catcher Jessica Allister hit a home run.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when the Cardinal got two runs. The first run came on a hit by freshman outfielder Jacki Hansen which drove home junior infielder Elizabeth Bendig and also senior catcher Jessica Allister who advanced home on the throw.
The Tigers made a pitching change in the top of the fourth inning bringing in freshman Erica Petersen. She held the Cardinal to two scoreless innings before being substituted for sophomore pitcher Samantha Fleeman who finished the game with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Tigers received hits from freshman second baseman Sarah Stringer in the top of the fourth and sixth innings and junior shortstop Heather Kunkel in the top of the first inning.
The Cardinal got two home runs from senior catcher Jessica Allister in the bottom of the third inning and in the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Tigers had two late runs in the top of the seventh inning. Senior outfielder Morgan LeCluyse was driven in on a hit by freshman catcher A.J. White while White scored on a single through the left side from sophomore Kendra Power to make the final score 5-2.
The Tigers entered the game coming off of a tough 4-3 loss to the Santa Clara Broncos in extra innings, while the Cardinal entered the contest on a three game wining streak, after beating Pacific 3-1 in the previous game of the afternoon.
The Tigers will play in the consolation round Sunday morning against the loser of the Santa Clara/Pacific game. The game will begin at 10 a.m. (PST).
