The Missouri Tiger wrestling team closed out the regular season by recording a 40-12 win over Tennessee-Chattanooga on Wednesday in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. A crowd of 1,268 was in attendance, the largest ever at Missouri.
The meet began at the 197-pound weight class. MU jumped out to a 12-0 lead as UTC was open at both 197 pounds and heavyweight, giving Mizzou's Dante Stone and Kevin Herron victories by forfeit.
In the 125-pound match, Mark Bader recorded a decision over Matt Pitts, a 2002 NCAA qualifier, with a 9-2 score. Bader is now 17-15 on the year.
At 133 pounds, Chris McCormick won by technical fall over Adam Rains to improve to 13-14 on the season.
No. 11 ranked J.P. Reese picked up his 14th pin of the year and moved to 24-10 with a pin in 1:08 against Ben Smith. Reese now has 33 career pins at Mizzou.
In the 149-pound class, Jeremy Spates injury defaulted to Jacob Harris after suffering an ankle injury in the first period, giving UTC its first points of the night.
At 157-pounds, UTC's Quentin Bell pinned Missouri's Cody Greene to give the Mocs their second victory in a row.
Jon Sioredas got MU back on the winning track with defeating Craig Johnson in the 165-pound class.
J.C. Russell followed by defeating Brandon Artiles in the 174-pound class with a 12-10 victory.
In the final match, No. 5 ranked Scott Barker pinned Quantal Langford in 3:12 to move to 12-1 on the season.
With the 40 points scored on Wednesday, Missouri set a new record for most team points scored in a season. The Tigers have recorded 605 points, passing the old record of 590 set by last year's team.
The Tigers finish the regular season with a 15-6 record. Next up for MU are the Big 12 Championships on March 8 at the Hearnes Center in Columbia.
