Marcolla Signs Letter of Intent to Join Mizzou Men's Golf

Dec. 17, 2003

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kyle Marcolla, a senior from Chillicothe, Mo., has signed a National Letter of Intent to enroll at the University of Missouri and play golf, Head Coach Tim Robyn announced today.

Marcolla is the defending MSHSAA Class 3A State champion and will look to repeat that title next May. He cruised to the 2003 title at Silo Ridge GC in Bolivar, when he handled the windy conditions on the final day of competition. His final-round 74 gave him a total of 145 and a comfortable win.

"We are all very happy to have Kyle become a Tiger. He has great potential and has already shown the ability to win important events," declared Coach Tim Robyn. "The guys on the team already know and like Kyle and he fits in well with the other Missouri boys on the team from north of Interstate 70. They will make quite a team. Kyle played very well at times last summer and is a hard-working guy. He is a tenacious competitor with a great deal of desire and the intangibles he brings to the team will benefit the rest of the guys."

Marcolla also qualified for the match play portion of the 2003 Missouri State Amateur at Hickory Hills CC. His low round in competition is a 65 and he is a three-time St. Joseph Press Golfer of the Year.

Other highlights to Marcolla's junior golf career include qualifying for the 2003 United States Junior Championship at Mission Hills CC with a 141 total and finishing seventh at the 2003 Little Peoples Championship. In his only AJGA outing in 2003, he finished 14th.

Kyle is also a top-flight basketball referee, officiating games throughout Missouri.

The Mizzou men resume their 2003-04 schedule from Monday-Tuesday, Feb. 16-17, at the Matlock Collegiate Classic in Lakeland, Fla.
