The University of Missouri men's swimming and diving teams travel to Carbondale, Ill. this weekend to take on the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Salukis on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
The Missouri men's team enters the weekend with a record of 1-1. Last weekend the Tigers defeated Truman State 127-78. Sophomore David Darmitzel won his first collegiate meet of his career as he finished first in the 200 butterfly. Senior Tyler Belanger added two first place finishes in the meet as his won the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Junior Matt North had the race of the night as he finished first and set a new pool record in the 200 butterfly.
Sophomore diver Evan Watters received his third Big 12 Diver of the Month award for his career as he was voted Diver of the Month for October after his performance against Texas A&M. Against A&M Watters defeated defending Big 12 Champion, Christian Picard, on the 1-meter board.
Southern Illinois enters the meet 1-0 after defeating Lincoln College 196.5-41.5. Against Lincoln, the Salukis won all thirteen events of the meet. Senior diver Adam Peper and freshman diver Brandon Birchak both set NCAA provisional qualifying scores. This season SIU returns 10 Missouri Valley Conference Champions and All-MVC performers at the MVC Championship meet.
