OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Senior CF Jayce Tingler (Smithville, Mo.) got his record, yet Steven White and No. 5 seed Baylor did the rest, allowing just three hits in throwing a seven-inning, 11-0 complete-game win over No. 4 seed Missouri in the first round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Tournament on Wednesday at SBC Bricktown Ballpark.
The game was called after seven innings because of the tournament's 10-run rule.
Tingler had two of the three hits for Mizzou (34-19), who will face the loser of Wednesday night's final game against No. 8 Kansas and Big 12 Champion Nebraska at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
Tingler flared a 2-2 pitch to right-center off of White to lead off the bottom of the first inning, moving him ahead of former all-American Ryan Fry (1995-98). He had both of Mizzou's hits in the first five innings, and now has 267 for his career.
White (7-4), who also got the win against the Tigers on April 18 in Waco by throwing seven innings, allowed just seven baserunners on Wednesday, and just one to reach third. That came in the fourth, when Mizzou loaded the bases without the benefit of a hit. Junior SS Ian Kinsler (Tucson, Ariz.) and junior C Brad Flanders (Smithville, Mo.) were both hit by pitches, and with two out, junior LF Ryan Rallo (Chesterfield, Mo.) walked to load the bases. White was able to get out of the inning, though, by inducing a lineout to short by junior 2B Jeremy Hernandez (Aptos, Calif.).
Junior RHP Danny Hill (Weimer, Texas) faced just one batter over the minimum through the first three innings, allowing a pair of hits, yet the Bears (38-19) batted around in the fourth to explode for five runs. David Murphy led off with a walk and moved to third on Josh Ford's bouncing double down the left-field line. Two batters later, Mark Saccomanno led off a barrage of four straight one-out hits against Hill (4-2) with a triple to right before yielding to freshman left-hander Taylor Parker (Bellaire, Texas).
Baylor broke the game open with six runs in the sixth, starting with back-to-back two-out doubles by Kevin Sevigny and Chris Durbin. Following a walk to Murphy, Ford and Michael Griffin hit RBI singles. Saccomanno got his second RBI with a double, and pinch-hitter Zach Dillon capped the scoring with a single. Murphy, who entered the weekend with a Big 12-leading .416 average, was the only starter to not get a hit.
"There's really not much to say," Head Coach Tim Jamieson said. "We didn't give ourselves a chance to play the kind of game we can play. We took a lot of bad swings. If we were able to score some runs for Danny, it might have made a difference in the outcome."
Mizzou, which came into the game ranked 10th in the country averaging 8.6 runs per game, has now been shut out in back-to-back contests for the first time since 1986.
