COLUMBIA, Mo.-- - The Mizzou softball team recorded its third win over a ranked opponent in the last two weeks, as it knocked off No. 5 Texas 1-0 in front of a record crowd at University Field on Saturday. The Tigers, who have defeated No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 20 Texas A&M earlier this season, moved to 22-13 and 5-2 in the Big 12.

Erin Kalka struck out eight Longhorn batters in recording a three-hit shutout, her seventh shutout of the year. Kalka improves to 12-7 on the season.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when MU scored the games only run. Daisy Mettlach reached on an error by the UT third baseman and then stole second base. Ashley Hays then drove Mettlach in as she roped a base hit to left field.

The hit was one of just two that Mizzou was able to get on Saturday of Texas pitcher Cat Osterman. Jeni Schellert's triple in the fifth was the other hit.

A crowd of 473, the largest ever at University Field, was on hand to see the Tiger victory.

With the win, Missouri records its fifth Big 12 Conference win of the year after winning just four league games last season.

The two teams will conclude the series at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
