Softball Drops Heartbreaker to Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla.-- - After a disappointing 8-0 loss on Saturday, the Mizzou softball team responded with a gritty performance against Oklahoma State on Sunday, but fell just short, dropping the second game of the series 2-1.

The Tigers scored their first run of the weekend in the sixth inning. Sara Vassmer, who reached on a bunt single, then stole second and scored on a two-out single by Heather Kunkel.

Oklahoma State struck back in the bottom of the sixth, as Brook Siebel connected on a two-out, two-RBI single to give the Cowgirls the 2-1 lead.

Erin Kalka, staring her second game of the weekend, was strong on Sunday. She pitched a complete game five-hitter, striking out four.

Vassmer, Kunkel and McGinnis each had hits for MU on Sunday.

Missouri returns home for doubleheaders on consecutive days this week. UMKC will visit University Field on Tuesday for games at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Saint Louis will be in Columbia on Wednesday with game one at 5 p.m.
