Mizzou Men and Women's Track Have Good Showings at Adidas Classic

The University of Missouri men's and women's track team had some outstanding individual performances at the Adidas Classic in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday. Four provisional qualifying marks and two automatic NCAA Indoor Championship marks were set by Tigers at the Classic.

On the women's side Amanda Bales won the mile with a season-best time of 4:41.45. That time was good enough to automatically qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Thrower Janae Strickland threw a provisional qualifying mark in the shot put of 51 feet, 9.25 inches. That is a personal best for Strickland. Junior pole vaulter Jennifer Bennett set a provisional qualifying mark and a personal best with a jump of 13 feet, 1.5 inches. Both Strickland and Bennett finished second in their events.

On the men's side Christian Cantwell threw another automatic qualifying mark in the shot put with a season best throw of 68 feet, 5 inches, Cantwell won the event. Tiger teammate Russ Bell finished fourth in the shot put with a provisional qualifying throw of 60 feet, 6 inches, Bell also finished second in the weight throw with another provisional qualifying mark of 64 feet, 1.25 inches. Other Tiger highlights from the meet include Tiger newcomer Marquis Davis winning the 200 meters in a time of 21.55 seconds and the Missouri men's distance medley relay team of Ryan Hampton, Timothy Dunne, Rem Moll, and David Mertens winning their event in a time of 10:03.57.

The Tigers are in action next February 14-15 at the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa.
