Parrish, Fla. - The University of Missouri women's golf team is tied for second place after the first day of competition in the Central District Invitational held in Parrish, Fla. Missouri, participating in their first contest of the spring season, is currently tied with Ohio State and Kansas State, five strokes off the lead held by Big 12 foe Baylor. Seven Big 12 teams are participating in the tournament along with many from the NCAA's Central District. "I'm very pleased with our performance so far in this tournament," said Tiger head coach Stephanie Cooper, "overall, I think the scores were pretty high throughout the tournament, mainly because this is the first time some teams have seen a course since November. We've been lucky to get in a few practice rounds."
Leading the Tigers, senior Elin Ohlsson (77-75 - 152) sits tied for eleventh place, three strokes off the lead, behind two Baylor Bears and Ohio State's Kristen White. Freshman Kelli Strubinger (77-77 - 154) stands two strokes behind Ohlsson and is tied for 17th place. "Elin played great today," said coach Cooper, "Kelli and Maria are also hitting the ball well."
Also after two rounds, Junior Mindy Bullard (80-78 - 158) is 14 over-par. Falling close behind Bullard, sophomore Maria Ohlsson (82-77 - 159) and Freshman Denise Knabel (77-83 - 160) are tied for 34th and 40th respectively in the 75-player field.
