When the game starts, Terianne Wolford can find herself in a number of roles. She has started a game three times this season and appeared in a total of 22 of Missouri's 24 games.
Due to her shooting ability and size, Wolford also can play inside as well as outside.
"Since I'm really little in the post, I've had to learn to do more stuff on the perimeter," said Wolford, a 6-foot sophomore from Nixa, Mo. "What's really hard for me is knowing the plays as a guard and as a post. Sometimes it gets really confusing when I switch back and forth. Sometimes I forget that I'm a post this time down the floor or that I'm a guard and I'll go to the wrong spots on our break or other plays. It's an adjustment I have to work at."
Wolford can make an impact in a hurry on the offensive end of the floor. She is known for a quick release and her accurate shot. She enters tonight's game just shy of cracking the program's all-time top 10 career list for 3-point field goal percentage and could crack the top 10 career list for 3-point field goals made with a late-season rush.
But scoring or records are not what is important now for Wolford
"Every time I touch the floor, I look to make a difference by hustling or scoring or contribute to a defensive stop." she said. "I look to score but it's not just scoring that I'm really focused on. I like the fact someone believes in me enough to put me into score when we're not, that's a compliment."
She has provided that spark several times for the Tigers, including an 11-point outing against nationally ranked Kansas State two weeks ago.
Wolford showed her offensive and rebounding abilities during Missouri's four-game European stint this past summer. While it was good to play basketball, Wolford said there was more to do than just that in Europe.
"I thought Europe was a really neat experience overall," she said. "It was fun to play basketball but it was more fun to go as a group, with all of your teammates who are your closest friends, go and see all that and play, too.
"You can play basketball pretty much anywhere but you can't always be in Europe," continued Wolford. "I would have never guessed I'd have been able to go there as a result of basketball." While Europe might be a college basketball highlight for Wolford, she knows there are other sides to playing at this level.
"The hardest part of college basketball is time management. You have practice, you have classes, you have study hall and a lot of other stuff going on," she said. "Things that are bothering you off of the court sometimes affect you on the court. That's a big adjustment. I try to put in the same effort every game but it's hard to do."
And that is one thing that does not change no matter what Wolford's role is that game or play.
