STILLWATER, Ok. -
The #1 Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated #13 Missouri, 34-6. The Tigers struggled all day against the Cowboys, only winning 2 out of 10 bouts. The Cowboys improved their dual meet record to 2-0 and 1-0 in the Big 12. The Tigers drop to 0-1 in the season and in the Big 12.
Senior Mark Bader started of the dual meet against All-American and #6 Skyler Holman in the 125 lb. bout. Bader wrestled Holman tough through all three periods, but Holman used a takedown and a reversal to notch the 5-3 decision over Bader to notch the first points of the day for the Cowboys.
Austin DeVoe took on Cody Stites in the next match (133 lbs.). Stites subbing in for injured two-time All-American Johnny Thompson, used three takedowns to record the 8-5 victory over DeVoe to extend the Cowboy lead to 6-0.
In the 141 lbs. bout #8 J.P. Reese had a 5-1 edge early in the first period on #4 Zack Esposito. But Esposito came back using a takedown and a three-point nearfall to take a 6-5 lead, while almost pinning Reese before time ran out in the first period. Esposito started on top to begin the second period and would flip Reese on his shoulders to record the fall.
OSU would receive a forfeit win at 149 pounds to make it 18-0, and #4 Shane Roller beat #14 Kenny Burleson, 4-2 in sudden victory and extended the Cowboys lead to 21-0.
In what most people thought would be the bout of the day, #6 Tyron Woodley couldn't figure out All-American and #2 ranked Tyrone Lewis, eventually losing on a major decision, 12-4. The loss eliminated any hope of the Tigers pulling off a victory against the top-ranked Cowboys.
Matt Turner couldn't stop the onslaught of #3 Chris Pendleton and was pinned at 5:49 in the 174 lbs. bout.
Redshirt freshman Jeff Foust, however did not give up and recorded the upset of the day. Foust, wrestling in his first dual meet at the varsity level, defeated #10 Jake Rosholt, 7-4, to record the first Tiger points of the meet.
Senior Dante Stone, hoping to build of the momentum of Foust's victory, nearly defeated All-American and #1 ranked 197 pounder, Muhammed Lawal. Lawal won with a 6-4 decision. In the last match of the meet, heavyweights Kevin Herron (#18) defeated the Cowboy's William Gruenwald (#20), 4-2 to score the last Tiger points.
The Tigers hit the road this weekend and travel to the Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas, Nevada on Dec. 6.
