After Day 1 of the Minnesota Invitational, the men's swimming and diving team are in fourth place out of the 23 team event. The men's team sits in fourth place with 156 points behind #8 Minnesota (309), #14 Wisconsin (238) and Iowa.
The men's team started off strong by placing fourth in the 200 freestyle relay, but it was senior Matt Ferrarelli that ended up being the top performance. Ferrarelli won the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:49.74. His time is the fastest in the country and it also provisionally qualified him for the NCAA's.
Senior Dane Pedersen won the consolation championship in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:34.50. Junior Tyler Belanger finished sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.95. Freshman Evan Watters led the Tiger diving team by finaling in the 3-meter board and finishing eighth.
The team returns to the pool tomorrow for Day 2 of the Invite. The start time is 12:00 pm for the prelims and 6:00 pm for the finals.
