Three Tiger Volleyball Players Named Academic All-Big 12

Nov. 20, 2002

University of Missouri seniors Lisa Morris and Katherine Wingert and redshirt freshman Shen Danru have been named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, it was announced on Wednesday. It is the fourth first-team honor for Morris and the first selection for Wingert and Danru.

Morris has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team in each of her four season as Mizzou. Just last week, she was named to the Verizon Academic All-District team for the third consecutive season. Morris was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention player last year and an All-Big 12 First Team selection in 2000. She was averaging 3.43 kills per game and had a .267 hitting percentage this season, before her year was cut short after she tore her anterior cruciate ligament on Oct. 26 in the Tigers' win over Texas.

Wingert has received the 4.0 GPA award her six previous semesters and is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In 2000, she was named to the Big 12 Fall Commissioners Honor Roll. After suffering a mid-season injury, Wingert has returned to the lineup for Mizzou and is averaging 0.59 digs per game.

Danru earns her first Academic All-Big 12 honor as a redshirt freshman. She leads the Tigers in kills on the year with 392 and digs with 307. She also leads the team in double-doubles on the season with 17. Danru was named the Preseason Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors on Sept. 9.

The volleyball academic all-conference team consists of 44 first team members and six second team selections. First Team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
