COLUMBIA, Mo. - Despite being held to three hits and no runs over the final eight innings, the Gold team defeated the Black by a 3-2 count at Simmons Field on Saturday, and holds a 2-1 lead in the Fall World Series.

The Gold scored all three runs in the first inning, when they batted around. Black starter Garrett Bauer (L, 0-1) gave up four consecutive walks for the second straight appearance, the last three of which forced runners home. Bauer then settled down, retiring 12 of the next 15 batters through the sixth inning, not allowing a runner past first base.

Freshman 1B Scott Fisher, who entered the game in an 0-for-9 slump, drilled a Cody Ehlers pitch into the left-field gap for a two-run double in the second for the Black. Junior SS Ian Kinsler and freshman OF Tyler Williams both scored on the play.

Ehlers (W, 1-0) scattered nine hits over six innings, yet allowed just the two-run double. He also struck out six. Mark Alexander pitched three no-hit innings of relief for the save.

"I like low-scoring games," said head coach Tim Jamieson. "We obviously played good defense today - the pitchers battled through situations more than the hitters. Garrett Bauer pitched well after the first inning, but he had too many bad pitches in the inning. But I like how the teams have played so far. I hope we go five games."

Kinsler went 3-for-4 with a run scored to raise his Series batting average to .615 (8-for-13)

Game 4 of the Fall World Series is slated for Tuesday at 6 p.m., with Game 5, if necessary, scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
