The No. 9 ranked Missouri wrestling team picked up its eleventh win of the year by defeating Wyoming on Friday 30-9. The Tigers improve to a perfect 11-0 while Wyoming drops to 3-8.
Tiger sophomore Scott Barker picked up a major decision in the first bout of the night at 197 pounds. Barker defeated Wyoming's Malcolm Havens 19-7 improving his record to 14-1 on the year.
At heavyweight, junior Kevin Herron defeated Brad Steele 9-0 for another MU major decision. Herron now has a record of 14-7 for the season.
Junior Mark Bader recorded a technical fall victory over Reynold Candelaria in the 125-pound match.
In the 133-pound match, Wyoming's Kelly McConville defeated Missouri freshman Chris McCormick 3-0.
The Cowboys picked up another decision at 141 pounds from Mark Hamrick. He defeated Tiger sophomore J.P. Reese 5-0.
Sophomore Jeremy Spates claimed a 6-1 decision over Thad Trujillo in the 149-pound bout. The win moved Spates' record to 16-3 on the year.
At 157 pounds, sophomore Kenny Burleson moved to 11-6 on the season with a technical fall win over Jason Waneka.
Redshirt freshman Tyron Woodley won the 165-pound match by forfeit. He now stands at 13-4 for the year.
Senior John Kopnisky picked up a 5-3 decision over E.K. Waldhaus in the 174-pound weight class. Kopnisky is 16-3 on the year and is now only four wins shy of picking up his 100th career victory as a Tiger.
In the 184-pound match, junior Dante Stone fell to Wyoming's Kevin Kessner by a 6-4 decision.
Missouri won seven of the ten matches on the way to picking up the victory. This marks only the second time since 1985 that Missouri has recorded an 11-win season.
"I thought it was a good win," MU Head Coach Brian Smith said. "We looked a little tired in some of the matches, but I think that had a little to do with the altitude. It was good to get this win. Now we move forward, focus on our mistakes and get ready for Oklahoma State next week."
Missouri returns to Columbia next Friday for its first home action in nearly six weeks. The No. 9 Tigers will host No. 2 Oklahoma State in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
