Missouri Defeats Idaho State at OSU Volleyball Showcase

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Missouri volleyball team picked up win number one on the season Friday night, defeating Idaho State 3-0 on the opening day of the Oregon State Volleyball Showcase in Corvallis, Ore.

The Tigers took game one of the match 30-20 after a well-earned gamepoint in which MU had numerous scoring opportunities before finally scoring the game winning point. Redshirt Freshman Shen Danru led the scoring for Mizzou in game one, putting away six kills in eight total attempts. Junior Chrissy Elder had 11 assists and junior Juliana Godoi, playing the new Libero position for the Tigers, had five digs in game one.

Mizzou took game two by a score of 30-26. Senior Lisa Morris led the Tigers with five kills and fellow senior Christi Myers had four. Missouri closed out the victory with a 30-26 win in game three as Myers and Danru each had eight kills in the final game for MU.

Morris and Danru led the way for the Tigers with 14 kills in the match. Myers added 12 kills. Elder finished with 24 assists and Danru led MU with 12 digs. Morris moved into third on the all-time attacks list at MU and is 51 attacks from second place. Myers is now alone in second place in block assists, moving ahead of Shannon Brown.

Three Tigers made their first ever collegiate appearance on Friday night. Freshman Lindsey Hunter had 17 assists as she took the court as the Tiger setter for game three. Redshirt freshman Lindsey Noll had one kill, one assist and one block for MU as she saw her first playing time. Danru finished with 14 kills and 12 kills as she saw her first court time.

Two other Mizzou players took the court for the first time as Tigers. Junior transfer Godoi finished with 11 digs and sophomore transfer Sara Parks started and had six digs on the night.

With the win, Head Coach Susan Kreklow and Associate Head Coach Wayne Kreklow are now 3-0 in season openers at Mizzou. The Tigers will take the court again of Saturday for two more matches in the OSU Showcase. MU will face Idaho at noon CST, then take on Oregon State at 9:30 p.m. CST.
