Columbia, Mo. - The weather cooled down in Columbia, but the action on the practice fields began to heat up today as the Missouri Tigers donned full pads for the first time in fall camp.
Here were some highlights that took place in the morning session during 11-on-11 scrimmaging:
In 3rd-down situational play:
*-DT Keith Wright had a sack of QB Brad Smith
*-Smith had completions to WR Darius Outlaw and RB Shan Schauffler
*-QB Kirk Farmer completed passes to WR Tay Jackson, WR Sean Coffey and RB Zack Abron
*-QB Sonny Riccio hooked up with WR Arnold Britt for a completion.
*-DE Brian Smith had a sack of QB Brandon Coleman.
In situational play inside the 10-yard line:
*-QB Brad Smith had a TD pass to Thomson Omboga versus the #1 defense.
*-WR Marcus James made the play of the morning when he leaped in the right corner of the end zone to snare a fade pass for a 6-yard TD from QB Kirk Farmer.
*-TD runs were made by RBs Tyrone Roberson, Mario Whitney and T.J. Leon.
In later play from near midfield:
*-QB Brad Smith had consecutive long TD completions against the #1 defense, the second one going to WR Thomson Omboga.
*-QB Kirk Farmer hooked up with WR Tay Jackson for a nice gain.
*-DT Keith Wright registered a sack of Farmer.
*-CB Calvin Washington forced a fumble that was recovered by Ryan Edwards.
*-DE Fabian Bean got pressure on QB Josh Hibbets and batted down an attempted swing pass.
NOTES
*-Those who sat out practice due to injuries included WR Justin Gage, OS Gary Anthony, OS Dedrick Harrington and DT Zach Ville. Gage and Anthony were held out of contact this morning with minor injuries -- Gage a sore right knee, and Anthony a mild concussion. Harrington missed his third straight practice after spraining an ankle on Monday. Ville had his appendix removed early yesterday evening after he complained of severe abdominal pain in a team meeting. He'll be out of action for 10-14 days.
