Wendte Named To Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team

June 5, 2002

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri pitcher Travis Wendte was named to the 2002 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American team Wednesday. The team was chosen by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Wendte, from Moore, Okla., posted a 3-3 record with five saves. He had a 3.89 earned run average and 48 strikeouts in 44 innings of work. His 26 appearances rank sixth on the MU single-season Top 10 chart.

In one eight-game streak, Wendte pitched 11 scoreless innings with 13 strikeouts. He recorded two saves against nationally ranked Baylor and picked up a win and a save against both Washington and Nebraska.

Wendte was one of six relief pitchers named to the squad's first team.

Wendte is the seventh MU player to be named a Freshman All-American in the past seven seasons. Lee Laskowski was an honorable mention pick to the team in 2001.
