Columbia, Mo. -- The University of Missouri men's and women's track & field teams will have four representatives at the 2002 USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships slated for June 21-23 at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif. to compete against some of the top athletes in the United States.
Junior Russ Bell will compete in both the men's shot put and men's discus, graduate Ann Marie Brooks will run in the women's 5000m, junior Timothy Dunne will race in the men's 800m and sophomore Christi Myers will compete in the women's high jump.
Brooks is one of three collegians in the 5000m, a race which Brooks took home All-American honors three weeks ago. Myers will have some friendly competition, as the Big 12 Champion Gina Curtis will also be competing in the high jump at the USATF meet. Bell, who earned All-American honors last month in the men's hammer, will compete in his other two specialties. Bell was the Drake Relays champ this year in both the collegiate shot put and the collegiate discus events. Dunne will compete in the 800m after picking up All-Big 12 honors in May and after competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event.
Also competing this weekend is freshman Rem Moll in the Junior Nationals division. Moll will be in the Junior Men's 800m, which has semifinals at 1:20 p.m. Friday and finals on Saturday at 1:10 p.m. Former MU track standout Derrick Peterson will compete along with Dunne in the men's 800m.
