COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri's Garrett Broshuis has been chosen to participate in the 2002 NCAA Leadership Conference, held May 26-31 in Orlando, Fla. Broshuis is one of 260 student-athletes selected to attend the sixth annual meeting.
Of the 260 attendees this year, 188 are from NCAA Division I institutions, 29 are from Division II and 43 are from Division III. All NCAA member institutions that participate in the NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program are eligible to submit student-athlete nominations.
Broshuis, a redshirt freshman pitcher from Advance, Mo., led the Tigers with five wins, 80.0 innings pitched and tied for the team lead with 58 strikeouts. He recorded his fifth win of the season in MU's 6-3 win over Northern Iowa on May 17. He pitched eight scoreless innings in the contest.
Broshuis was named to the Academic All-Big 12 Conference Team last week as a first-team selection. He was the lone member of that squad with a 4.0 grade-point average. He is majoring in psychology.
