Tigers Pick Up Split With Texas A&M, Wins Series

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Missouri and Texas A&M each picked up a win in Saturday's Big 12 Conference doubleheader at Olsen Field but the Tigers won the best-of-three series, two games to one.

The Tigers improve to 22-20 overall and 9-11 in Big 12 play while No. 19 Texas A&M is 32-18 overall and 11-10 in league action.

Here's a look at both games:

Game One - Texas A&M 16, Missouri 5 (7)
In the opener, Jayce Tingler led off the game with a single, the 17th-straight game he has had at least one hit. Tingler then scored when Jody Roughton tripled to left-center field. Roughton scored on a sacrifice fly by Cody Ehlers.

Texas A&M answered with a run in its half of the first to make it Missouri, 2-1, after one. The Aggies put up four runs on five hits, three being doubles, to take a 5-2 lead after two frames.

Missouri scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, all coming after two outs. Brent Lacy singled to right field before Tingler singled to left. Roughton singled to right field to plate Lacy before Lee Laskowski singled to score Tingler. Texas A&M's Ty Garner led off the fourth with a home run to give the Aggies a 6-4 lead.

Garner hit a two-run homer in the fifth to give the Aggies a 9-4 lead. In the sixth, Texas A&M used six hits and three walks to score seven runs and take a 16-4 lead.

The Tigers added a run in the seventh. The contest was called after seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

Tingler and Roughton each had three hits in the contest. Roughton drove in two runs.

Game Two - Missouri 13, Texas A&M 2 (8)
In the first inning, Missouri plated a season-high seven runs. After one out, W.T. Hoover walked before Cody Ehlers reached on a fielder's choice and Hoover was safe after an error. Lee Laskowski followed with a three-run home run. Jody Roughton singled and Mick Weiss reached on an error. Luke Cassis walked before Chris Julo doubled to left-center field to score Roughton and Weiss. Cassis scored when Ryan Rothford grounded out and Julo scored when Tingler reached on a bunt single. The single by Tingler extended his hit streak to a career-best 18 games.

Tingler had a two-out triple to score Cassis and Rothford in the third inning and give MU a 9-0 advantage. The Tigers took a 10-0 lead in the sixth inning. After back-to-back-to-back singles by Ehlers, Laskowski and Roughton, Weiss drove in Ehlers with a sacrifice fly.

Texas A&M got a two-run homer by Neal Stephenson in the sixth inning before MU plated another run in the seventh. Ehlers scored on a two-out single by Laskowski to take an 11-2 lead.

The Tigers used one hit and took advantage of three Texas A&M errors to score two runs in the eighth. Julo reached on an error before moving to third base on a single by Rothford. Tingler reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Julo. Hoover hit into a fielder's choice and when an a throw went awry for an error, Rothford scored to give MU a 13-2 lead.

Abel Newton improved to 4-3 with the complete game win. He allowed only five hits. Tingler, Roughton and Julo each had two hits while Laskowski had three hits. Tingler and Laskowski each had four runs batted in.

Tigers will play Western Illinois Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
