Tigers Look To Win Series Against Texas A&M

LUBBOCK, Texas - Missouri (21-19, 8-10) meets Texas A&M in today's 2 p.m. Big 12 Conference doubleheader.

Probable Pitchers: Justin James (2-2) and Abel Newton (3-3) will be Missouri's starting pitchers. James, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., threw a complete game in Missouri's 14-4 eight-inning win over Kansas (4/21 - game two). Newton, a freshman from Russellville, Ark., struck out 10 batters in his win over Baylor (3/22).

Friday Night: After opening an 11-4 lead with just one remaining, Missouri had to hang on to pick up the 11-10 win. Cody Ehlers led the Tigers with three hits and four runs batted in. Garrett Broshuis struck out a career-best seven batters in seven innings of work to improve to 4-4. Jayce Tingler had two hits to extend his hit streak to a career-best 16 games. Jody Roughton drove in three runs, two coming on his seventh home run of the season. Mick Weiss had two hits, including his career-best tying ninth homer. W.T. Hoover and Lee Laskowski each had two hits.

Let's Play Two: Missouri split a doubleheader with Texas Tech on March 31, losing the opener 13-6 but came back to win the nightcap, 7-1. The Tigers swept a twin bill from Kansas on April 21, winning 16-10 and 14-4.

Scoring Rampage: Missouri has scored 10-or-more runs in seven straight games. The school record is eight set in the 1988 season.

Hit Streak: Jayce Tingler is on a 16-game hit streak. He had a 15-game hit streak in 2000 and had an 11-game streak in 2001. Tingler is hitting .365 during the streak and has scored 27 runs in those games. He also has walked 18 times.

Back-to-Back: For the second time this season, Missouri hit back-to-back homers when Jody Roughton and Mick Weiss turned the trick in the third inning Friday night. Lee Laskowski and Cody Ehlers went back-to-back on Feb. 23 against Southern Illinois.

First-game Wins: Missouri recorded its fourth-straight series-opening win and fifth overall (fourth in Big 12 play) on Friday. MU just won one series-opening Big 12 game last season and three overall in 2001.
