Spring Game to Highlight Super Tiger Saturday

April 16, 2002

Columbia, Mo. - A full plate of activities for all ages is planned this weekend in Columbia in association with the annual Spring Football Game.

The headline event is the Black & Gold Spring Game, which is set for a 2 p.m. kickoff at Memorial Stadium. The scrimmage will culminate the second spring practice season under Head Coach Gary Pinkel. Admission to the game is just $3, or three canned food items which go to the Central Missouri Food Bank.

Prior to the scrimmage, kids of all ages are invited to check out the Tiger Experience in the West parking lot of the Hearnes Center. Beginning at 10 a.m., and running until kickoff of the scrimmage, the Tiger Experience will feature a fun mix of free interactive games and exhibits for children and adults. A sampling includes pictures with Truman the Tiger, inflatable games including the KPLA Bounce House, and face painters, among many others.

Following the scrimmage, the 2nd annual Tailgate Mizzou Dinner & Auction will take place in the Hearnes Center Arena beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Tiger Scholarship Fund, and includes live and silent auctions for a myriad of valuable autographed collectibles. Dinner and cocktails will be served, and tickets are available for $50 each ($500 for a table of eight) by calling Brenda Baker at (573) 884-0742.

For the bargain hunters out there, the Tiger Team Store will be holding a weekend-long garage sale at the Memorial Stadium store located on the North end of the stadium. The sale, which features authentic game-worn jerseys from all Tiger sports in addition to regular merchandise, runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and continues from Noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, with selected merchandise going for 25% off the already low prices on the final day.

Other athletic contests being held in Columbia include a baseball game vs. Kansas on Friday (6:30 p.m.), a tennis match vs. Oklahoma on Saturday (1 p.m.) and a pair of softball games vs. Texas Tech on Saturday (7 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.).
