Men's Golf Finishes 6th at Emerald Coast Tournament

March 6, 2002

Gulf Breeze, Fla. - The University of Missouri men's golf team moved up two spots in the team standings on day two of the Emerald Coast Collegiate Challenge to finish 6th in the 11-team event. Mizzou's 36-hole team total of 618 put them in 6th, 27 shots back of champion and host team West Florida, who won with a 593 total.

Tim Robyn's squad had the most improvement of any team in the tournament on day two, as the Tigers clipped 18 shots off their team score of Monday (318), to shoot an even 300 on Tuesday.

A trio of Tigers led the MU charge on day two, as senior Mark McBride, junior Chris Happ and Brandon Knaub had identical two-round totals of 153 and finished tied for 16th place individually. McBride improved from a 78 on Monday to a 75 on Tuesday, while Happ and Knaub each improved their Monday scores by five strokes, shooting a pair of 74s on Tuesday.

Junior Cory Ewert shot a second straight 79 on Tuesday, and finished tied for 28th place with his total of 156. Ewert was entered as an individual, meaning his score wasn't counted toward MU's team score.

Rounding out the Tiger lineup were freshman Ben Scott and sophomore Mike Radek, who finished tied for 30th and 41st, respectively. Scott improved by five strokes on Tuesday, with a 2nd-round 77, while Radek clipped three shots off his Monday score for an 80 on Tuesday.
