Lafayette, La. - The University of Missouri men's golf team shot team scores of 290 and 295 Monday at the opening day of the Louisiana Classics, held at Oakbourne Country Club in Lafayette, La. Missouri's two-round total of 585 put the Tigers alone in 8th place, but only 12 shots separate MU from leader SMU (1st - 573). The final 18 holes of play in the 15-team competition will take place Tuesday.
Individually, senior Mark McBride and freshman Ben Scott led the way for Missouri, as the duo finds itself among a 4-way tie for 3rd place with identical two-round scores of 142.
McBride fired a 4-under par 68 in Monday's morning round, which gave him the 1st-round lead. He came back with a 2-over 74 in the afternoon round. Scott shot an even-par 72 in the morning, and toured the afternoon round in 2-under fashion for a 70. The pair stands just three shots behind day one leader Mark Hull of Texas Tech, who shot rounds of 69 and 70 for a 139 two-round score.
Next up for Missouri is sophomore Brandon Knaub and junior Chris Happ. Knaub shot rounds of 74 and 76 to record a two-round score of 150, while Happ shot 76 and 75 for a 151 score. Knaub stands tied for 47th individually after day one, while Happ sits tied for 56 place overall.
Rounding out the Missouri contingent is senior Doug Albers, who shot rounds of 81 and 80 for a 161 total, good for 80th place overall.
