Clarence Gilbert Named Big 12 Player of the Week

Feb. 25, 2002

Dallas, Texas - Missouri senior Clarence Gilbert scored a Big 12 record 12 three-pointers at Colorado on Saturday. The guard scored 40 points for the second time in his career and has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week. The honor is voted on by a media panel.

Gilbert rewrote the Missouri and Big 12 records book in the 96-83 win at Colorado on Saturday. The Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., guard Gilbert broke Big 12 and MU records last Saturday at Colorado by making 12 three-point field goals. The old Big 12 record was 10 by Al Coleman of Texas (1-12-97 vs. Kansas State), and the old MU record was eight (accomplished 4 previous times). That total is also the most made in a game by anyone in the nation this season, besting the previous high of 11 by Vermont's T.J. Sorrentine (1-17-02 vs. Northeastern). It is also the fourth-most in NCAA single-game history. For the week Gilbert averaged 29 points, shot 50 percent from the field and averaged 4.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists. Gilberts wins the honor for the second time this season and third for his career.
