Missouri Records Highest Floor Exersice Score in History

Feb. 22, 2002

Columbia, Mo.-Hosting the Boone County Bank Tiger Showdown, the Missouri Tigers scored 193.725 to finish second behind No. 6 ranked Oklahoma (196.500). Centenary College rounded out the trio recording a 189.225.

Losing leading scorer Alisha Robinson after just two events proved to be a larger mental strain on the Tigers than would be expected. After competing on the vault and bars exercises recording her lowest scores on both events going 9.375 and 9.725 respectively, Robinson was pulled from the meet with an ankle injury.

"Alisha was injured in practice all week. We felt it would be a recipe for disaster if she had continued to go. She is such a competitive athlete, but we decided it would be best to keep her healthy to play another day," MU Head Coach Rob Drass said.

The Tigers put forth a strong vaulting effort recording tying the third highest score of the season with a 48.425. Sophomore Lindsay Davis scored a 9.750 to top Missouri and junior Laura Anson recorded a 9.700 to boost Mizzou.

Moving onto the bars, Anson put up her highest mark of the season nailing a 9.800 to help MU record its third-highest event score on the apparatus this season. She was followed by a 9.775 from Davis and a 9.875 performance by Andrea Nervig-her sixth 9.8+ bar routine of the year.

Mizzou's balance beam series proved to be the toughest event of the evening. Despite a 9.725 from Davis and a 9.800 from freshman Rachael Dombart, the Tigers were only able to score a 47.100.

Backed by the disappointment on beam, Missouri proved its resolve and showed a new element of determination in the floor exercise recording a new MU record with a 49.300. Davis and Rachel Bridges started the team off with a double 9.825, Andrea Nervig and Leah Gremaud scored a 9.875 and Laura Forbes topped the event with a 9.900.

"The high point of the meet was floor. The coaching staff challenged the athletes to overcome something bad with something good. It was our best ever floor and that is the sign of a great team, to strike make and make something special happen and they did that on floor tonight," Drass said.
