Lincoln, NE--Three members of the University of Missouri gymnastics team competed at the NCAA Region 3 Championships on Saturday. In what many considered to be the toughest Region in the nation, the Tigers faced the likes of No. 4 Nebraska, No. 10 Penn State, No. 15 Washington, No. 19 Oklahoma, No 23 Illinois State and No. 25 Illinois State and put up quality numbers. Freshman Lindsay Davis rotated with Penn State, sophomore Alina Hamm rotated with Oklahoma and sophomore competed on beam with Illinois State.
Sophomores Hamm and Gremaud both had solid meets. Hamm put up a 9.750 on vault, a 9.700 on bars and a 9.725 on floor for a total of 38.450 in the all-around competition, good enough for 15th place. Gremaud, who has been spectacular on beam all season, registered a 9.675 on the four-inch wide apparatus. Davis got her first taste of what is sure to be a plethora of Regional competition and was solid recording scores of 9.750 on vault and 37.975.
"Lindsay and Alina had some trouble on their first events (beam and floor, respectively) but they were able to bring it together and compete well," head coach Rob Drass said. "All three of these individuals have a lot to be proud of and I am pleased with the way they represented the University of Missouri. I also think we can use this as motivation for next season as we continue to improve and mature as a team"
The meet wraps up the 2001 Tiger season. Mizzou looks to have a very bright future with all but one squad member returning and all three regional qualifiers back to compete for Coach Drass in 2001. Scores for MU gymnasts are as follows:
