Norman, Okla. - The Missouri wrestlers were handed a 24-4 loss by No. 8 Oklahoma in Big 12 action Sunday evening.
Jesse Jordan scored the lone Tiger win, beating Tony Moore by a 10-2 major decision. The rest of the night belonged to the Sooners as they scored bonus points in four of their nine victories.
"Our key to turning these duals around is winning the close matches," said Head Coach Brian Smith. "We had some chances that we didn't capitalize on. Also, we took hits where we normally count on wins. The losses at 125 (Justin Spates) and 174 (John Kopnisky) really took the wind of our sails."
The Tiger outing wasn't entirely without merit, however. Redshirt freshman Kenny Burleson wrestled tough in a 9-3 loss to eighth-ranked Jared Frayer. Frayer leads the nation in pins. Finally No. 6 John Kopnisky was turned for five points early in the match, then battled back, nearly turning #10 Michael Barger at the end of the match. Kopnisky lost 6-5.
Currently 6-9-1, the Tigers return home this week as Mizzou takes on the fourth-ranked Cyclones of Iowa State Friday at 7 p.m. at the Hearnes Center.
