
Wrestlers Fall to No. 4 Iowa State

COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri Tigers got off to a 10-3 lead, but the fourth-ranked Iowa State Cyclones proved to be too much as the Cyclones knocked off the Tigers by a score of 28-13 on Friday night in Columbia. The Tigers will travel to Northern Iowa on Sunday for an afternoon dual with Northern Iowa. The first match begins at 2:00 p.m.
Missouri fell behind 3-0 after DANTE STONE dropped a 10-4 decision to Zach Thompson at 197 pounds. The Tigers bounced back to win the next two matches. SCOTT BARKER defeated Nick Britton of ISU by major decision, 13-5. His victory was followed by a default victory by JUSTIN SPATES of Mizzou to give the Tigers a 10-3 advantage.
Next in line were three nationally-ranked wrestlers for Iowa State, but the Cyclones didn't win them all. Tenth-ranked Matt Azevedo defeated JESSE WEST 12-3 followed by a major decision by ISU's ninth-ranked Zach Robertson at 141 pounds. That gave the Cyclones an 11-10 advantage.
The surprise of the night came at 149 pounds as freshman KENNY BURLESON upset 13th-ranked Billy Maldanado by a score of 7-1 to give Missouri a 13-11 lead. That would be the last win of the night for the Tigers.
JESSE JORDAN dropped a tough match to Cole Sanderson of Iowa State by a score of 6-3. Iowa State's JOE HESKETT, ranked second in the country at 165 pounds, defeated MU's Mark Vollmar by technical fall to give the Cyclones a 19-13 advantage. ISU's Perry Parks put the match out of reach as he scored a 4-3 upset victory over Missouri's JOHN KOPNISKY, ranked eighth in the nation.
Iowa State capped the meet off with a pin by CAEL SANDERSON at 184 pounds, his 109th victory in a row. RY STONE took the loss for Missouri.
The Tigers record falls to 6-10-1.
