
Missouri Improves to 2-0 With Win Over Indiana

The No. 16 ranked Missouri wrestlers moved to 2-0 on the season with a 21-16 win over the Indiana Hoosiers in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse on Friday. Indiana fell to 0-1 on the year.
Missouri began the night with a big major decision victory from freshman Chris McCormick. He defeated Indiana senior Brian Smiley 13-4 in the 133-pound weight class.
In the 141-pound weight class Indiana's Coyte Cooper defeated Missouri sophomore J.P. Resse by a score of 13-8.
Sophomore Jeremy Spates, ranked No. 10, recorded an 8-5 decision over Steve Amy of Indiana in the 149-pound weight class.
At 157 pounds, Indiana's Rocky Mantella pinned MU redshirt freshman Jon Sioredas in the third period.
Missouri picked up a win from redshirt freshman Tyron Woodley. The No. 9 ranked Woodley defeated Jereme May of Indiana 8-5 in the 165-pound battle.
MU senior John Kopnisky, the seventh ranked wrestler in the 174-pound class, recorded a major decision win over Indiana's Andrew Wolf by a final score of 19-6.
Indiana's Viktor Sveda, the No. 2 ranked wrestler at 184 pounds, had to battle to earn a 7-4 decision over Tiger junior Dante Stone.
Missouri sophomore Scott Barker picked up the Tiger's third major decision of the night, and nearly had his second technical fall of the year, with a 17-4 victory over IU's Ty Matthews.
In the heavyweight battle, MU junior Kevin Herron, ranked No. 11 in the heavyweight class, defeated Indiana's D.J. Radnovich by a score of 8-3.
In the final bout of the night, Greg Schaefer of Indiana recorded a major decision over Tiger junior Mark Bader with a 13-5 win.
The win is the first for Missouri over Indiana since 1992. The Hoosiers had won the last eight meetings between the two schools.
Next up for the Tigers is a double dual on Saturday in the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse at 4 p.m. when the Purdue Boilermakers and the Missouri Valley Vikings take on the Tigers.
