The No. 16 ranked Missouri Tigers picked up two more wins Saturday, as they knocked of Purdue and Missouri Valley in a double dual at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse. The Tigers are now 4-0 on the season.
The dual with Purdue went down to the final match with Missouri defeating the Boilermakers 18-16. The Tigers downed Missouri Valley 38-7.
The Missouri versus Purdue match began with Chris Fleeger of Purdue defeating MU junior Mark Bader 13-3 in the 125-pound match.
Purdue made it two straight wins when Rene Hernandez defeated Tiger freshman Chris McCormick 12-9 at 133 pounds.
Sophomore J.P. Reese recorded Missouri's first win with a 6-4 decision over Paul Sacquitne of Purdue in the 141-pound bout.
Tiger sophomore Jeremy Spates made it two straight wins for Mizzou with a 9-5 decision over Dan Jankowski of the Boilermakers in the 149-pound weight class.
The 157-pound match required two sudden death overtimes to decide the outcome. Purdue's Brad Harper finally defeated Jon Sioredas by a 2-1 score.
Redshirt freshman Tyron Woodley scored an 8-2 decision for the Tigers over Purdue's Oscar Santiago.
At 174 pounds, the Boilermakers' Ryan Lange handed MU senior John Kopnisky his first loss of the season with a 10-8 decision.
Tiger junior Dante Stone recorded a 3-1 victory over John Fitch in the 184-pound weight class. Sophomore Scott Barker pinned Purdue's John Bush in the first period. That gave Missouri its first lead in the dual.
In the heavyweight match, Jake Vercelli of Purdue defeated Missouri junior Kevin Herron. But the 7-4 decision was not enough to take the lead away from the Tigers as MU held on for the 18-16 win.
In the Tiger's dual with Missouri Valley, MU took the lead early after Mark Bader won by default in the 125-pound class.
Missouri freshman Chris McCormick fell to the Vikings' Tyson Biddle 13-8 in the 133-pound class.
J.P Reese pinned Shane Cristelli in the 141-pound bout, Jesse Jordan recorded a 11-5 decision at 149 pounds and Kenny Burleson scored a major decision in the 157-pound weight class.
Missouri Valley's Matt Cobb defeated Tiger redshirt freshman J.C. Russell 13-4 in the 174-pound match.
Tiger redshirt freshman Matt Turner won the 184-pound bout with 7-3 decision over Shane Clark of Missouri Valley.
Missouri finished the dual with back-to-back pins. Scott Barker had another pin, this one over Joe Potts in the second period. Kevin Herron scored a pin just thirty seconds into the first period of the heavyweight match.
The third dual, between Missouri Valley and Purdue, was won by the Boilermakers 36-3.
The 4-0 start is the best start for the Tigers since 1984-85 when they got off to a 5-0 start. So far this season Missouri is 3-0 against opponents from the Big Ten Conference.
Next up for Missouri is its first road dual of the year as they head to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the Cornhuskers next Saturday. Following that the Tigers will travel to Reno, Nev. to take part in the Reno Invitational on Dec. 20.
