COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team made two 3-point field goals in the first 66 seconds of Thursday's non-conference game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Hearnes Center. The 3-point field goals were a sign of things to come as the Tigers made a school-record 13 3's in the 102-47 win. MU's previous record of 11 3-point field goals came in an 89-84 overtime win over Kansas on Feb. 10, 2001.
Missouri, which improved to 8-1 on the season, surpassed the 100-point mark for the second time this season and the fourth time in head coach Cindy Stein's career. MU is 4-0 under Stein when scoring 100 or more points and 32-1 all-time when topping the century mark.
After a break for semester finals, Missouri came out with desire.
"It was nice to finally play a game," said Tracy Lozier, who scored a career-high 12 points. "We had been off for 11 days and it was fun to come out and play. It's a lot better than practice."
The Tigers had five players score in double figures in the game, which saw MU open the game with a 13-0 run. Natalie Bright (Sr., West Des Moines, Iowa) led the way with 17 points and career-high marks of nine assists and five steals. Bright sank 5-of-6 3-point field goals on the night, setting another personal best.
Kerensa Barr (Jr., West Plains, Mo.) scored 13 points while Lozier (So., Leawood, Kan.) and Terianne Wolford (So., Nixa, Mo.) each scored 12 points. Melanie Fisher (So., St. Louis) scored 10 points. Each member of Missouri's team scored in the triumph.
MU opened the game by making six of its first seven shots from the field.
The Tigers will play Illinois (6-3) Saturday at 5 p.m. in St. Louis in the annual Busch Braggin' Rights Game, which will be played at the Savvis Center.
