COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Big 12 Conference named the 2001 Football Academic All-Big 12 Team on Tuesday. Among the recipients were 15 student-athletes from Missouri. Eight of the 15 Tigers chosen were named to the first team. First team members must maintain a grade-point average of at least 3.2.
Headlining the group are junior quarterback Kirk Farmer and sophomore offensive lineman Rob Droege. Both players were named to the Verizon District VII All-Academic Team last week. Farmer is a communications major while Droege is studying social studies education.
Other first team members include seniors Ben Davidson, Jim Dougherty and Chris Ryan, sophomore Rusty Groth and redshirt freshmen Terrell Mills and Phil Pitts.
Named to the second team were seniors Jared Gilpin and Duke Revard, junior T.J. Leon, sophomores Marcus Caldwell and A.J. Ricker and redshirt freshmen Brock Harvey and Kevin Johnson. All second team members maintain GPA's of 3.0-3.19.
