COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championships Monday will be end both the season as well as senior Ann Marie Brooks' cross country career. Brooks will be the only Tiger racing, after she placed fourth (20:56.8) at the Midwest Regional November 10.
Assistant cross country coach Rebecca Wilmes said Brooks' season has been a successful one despite a nagging ankle injury.
"She ran great in a year that nothing worked for her training-wise," Wilmes said. "She's running on her big heart and not a lot of training."
Brooks will finish her cross country career much like she started it. The harrier has been to the national meet all four years at Missouri. However, this final race will be her first race without her teammates.
At previous NCAA meets, Brooks placed 86th (2000), 132nd (1999) and 94th (1998).
Furman University will host the 2001 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, November 19, at the Furman University Golf Course, in Greenville, SC. The men's race will begin at 11:30 a.m. ET followed by the women's race at 12:15 p.m.
Results will be available at www.mutigers.com Monday afternoon.
