Mizzou Softball Team Stops North Central and Meramec

Columbia, Mo. - The Missouri softball team picked up two more wins today defeating North Central Community College, 14-2 and Meramec, 10-0 at University field. Mizzou improves to 4-0 this fall after grabbing two wins yesterday over Truman State and Johnson County Community College.

In Mizzou's first game of the day against the Lady Pirates of North Central, junior Ingrid Werner was outstanding going the distance for the second straight game scattering seven hits and guiding Mizzou to the win. The Tigers used a four-run first and an eight-run sixth to grab a 14-2 victory. Seniors Lindsey Jacoby and Mary McGrane recorded three hits apiece to lead the Tigers. Jacoby had four RBI in the game.

The Tigers jumped out a quick start once again against Meramec. The Tigers rallied for five runs in the first inning and three runs in the second in rout to their fourth win of the fall, 10-0. Freshman Erin Kalka continued to impress going seven strong innings giving up only one it and striking out nine. Junior Melanie Fisher and sophomore Daisy Mettlach provided the offensive firepower for Mizzou recording three and four hits respectively. Mettlach hit her first home run of the fall in the fourth inning and Fisher scored three runs and recorded two RBI.

The Tigers will continue to train and will see their next action of the fall on Oct. 6-7 as they host the Charity Classic. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. The tournament will feature Southeast Missouri State, UMKC, Southwest Missouri State and the Tigers.
