Tigers Go 2-0 in Opening Action of Fall

Columbia, Mo.-The University of Missouri softball team took the field for the first time this fall on Saturday. The Tigers opened with great results, defeating Truman State 1-0 in eight innings and Johnson County Community College, 8-3.

The Tigers took on Truman to open their fall campaign. Freshman Erin Kalka was brilliant allowing only three hits in eight innings of work picking up the complete game shutout of the Bulldogs. Junior Sara Vassmer and senior Erin Erickson provided the offensive firepower for Mizzou recording two hits apiece. Vassmer scored the Tigers lone run in the bottom of the eighth on Erickson's double to left field to score the winning run.

Immediately following their showdown with the Bulldogs, the Tigers downed the Johnson County Community College Lady Cavaliers, 8-3. The bats awoke for Mizzou in the contest recording eight hits including a double and a home run by designated player Melanie Fisher. Fisher went 3-3 in the game and 3-4 on the day scoring three runs and knocking in four RBI for Mizzou. Junior Ingrid Werner was solid on the hill allowing only four hits and three runs in the complete game effort.

The Tigers will once again take the field on Sunday when they face North Central at 1:00 p.m. and then take on Meramac at 3:00 p.m. Games are free to the public and are played at University Field
