Columbia, Mo.- The University of Missouri volleyball team kicked of their 2001 preseason workouts earlier this past week holding two-a-day practices in both the morning and afternoon. The Tigers took the afternoon session off on Saturday after what head coach Susan Kreklow called "a good morning session."
"We've been very pleased with the effort the team has put forth so far," Kreklow said. "The squad is a very focused group, very positive and continues to improve with every practice."
The upperclassmen on the squad have definitely set the tone for the 2001 preseason camp. Senior middle blocker Krista Johnson has dominated at the net and has continued her solid play from the spring season while senior outside hitter Kristen Johnson has rebounded from a 2000 ACL tear and is practicing very well.
The always-intense Lisa Morris (junior, outside hitter) has put her All-Big 12 first team skills on display in the early going while middle blocker Christi Myers has been an outstanding tutor for the Tigers three freshman middle blockers, Jenny Duitsman (6-0), Lindsey Noll (6-5) and Lisa Boyd (6-2).
The Tigers have been able to go at full strength since the beginning of camp reporting no major injuries. Mizzou will also take Sunday to rest before opening workouts again on Monday morning.
The Tigers will hold their annual Media Day on Tuesday at 4:30 in the Hearnes Center Mizzou will also put it skills on display next Saturday, Aug. 18 at 5:00 for the "Meet the Tigers" Open House, part of the Mizzou Preview 2001 event set to kick off at 9:00 a.m. at Faurot Field.
