May 8, 2001

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has hired Frank Cuervo as Mizzou's Director of Marketing and Promotions, as announced today by Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations Mario Moccia.

Cuervo, 26, has served as an assistant athletic director for marketing and communications since July of 2000 at Bowling Green State University. At BGSU, Cuervo was responsible for the marketing of 22 sports, as well as corporate sponsorship and advertising sales, and had additional duties associated with the sales and production of the Falcons' weekly football and men's basketball highlight shows.

"This is an exciting situation because The University of Missouri is a fine institution with great history and tradition," Cuervo said. "I'm very grateful for the opportunity and am looking forward to making a contribution to the continued success of Tiger Athletics," he said.

A native of Gainesville, Fla., Cuervo served as a marketing associate at The Ohio State University. While at OSU, Cuervo initiated and supported marketing and promotional efforts for all 35 athletic programs while also maintaining and servicing sponsor relationships. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Sport Management in May of 2000.

Prior to Ohio State, Cuervo served as a marketing assistant with the University of Florida athletic department, and with the Outback Bowl, where he gained experience in sponsor recruitment and promotions. He also spent one year as an Assistant Account Executive at Manning, Selvage & Lee Public Relations Agency. Cuervo is a 1996 graduate of Florida.

"We are very pleased to have Frank join our staff," said Moccia. "We conducted an extensive search to find the right person to take the ball and run, and we feel that Frank is an excellent fit. He's got a good track record and has a nice vision for what we can accomplish here at Missouri," he said.
