Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri softball team (30-26) faced conference rival Kansas Sunday, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game, 4-3.
Kansas scored first in the top of the third inning, when Shelly Musser hit a double that would score her twin sister, Christi.
The Tigers would answer in the bottom of the same inning, when Sara Vassmer hit a single to the pitcher that would score Heather Allister from third. The Jayhawk pitcher then muffed the throw to first, allowing Stephanie Falk to cross the plate, and the Tigers took the 2-1 lead.
The Tigers bought some insurance in the sixth inning, when Lindsey Jacoby scored off a single by designated player Melanie Fisher.
The Jayhawks rallied in the top of the seventh to tie the game, 3-3, but in the bottom of the seventh with one out and the bases loaded, Jacoby hit a single to the shortstop that would score Ingrid Werner from third to win the game, 4-3.
The Tigers' next action is Wednesday, May 9, at the Big 12 Tournament, as they face Texas in a 5 p.m. play-in game to see who will advance to the double-elimination rounds of the tournament. The winner of the contest will move on to face Nebraska Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
