Baseball Team Has Four Honored

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team had four players named to the honorable mention team of the 2001 All-Big 12 Conference team. The team was chosen by the league's head coaches.

Ryan Stegall, Jayce Tingler, Mick Weiss and Jon Williams were named to the honorable mention squad.

Stegall, a junior shortstop/relief pitcher from Liberty, Mo., closed the season with an 18-game hit streak. He led the Tigers in hits (64) doubles (14), triples (3), home runs (15), runs batted in (46) and saves (6). He posted a 4-0 record on the pitching mound. Stegall was the first-team all-Big 12 shortstop in 2000 and was named honorable mention in 1999.

Tingler, a sophomore outfielder from Smithville, Mo., hit .304 this season. He stole a team-high 20 bases and had a streak of safely reaching base in 16 consecutive at bats.

Weiss, a junior first baseman, hit a career-best nine home runs. Weiss hit .302 and had the game-winning homer against Iowa State on April 22.

Williams, a senior catcher/third baseman, hit .301 to go with 14 doubles and seven home runs. Williams also was named to the 1999 honorable mention all-conference squad.

Missouri closed the season with a 31-24-1 overall record.
