Softball falls to Texas A&M

May 10, 2001

Oklahoma City, Okla. - The University of Missouri softball team (31-27) fell to the Texas A&M Aggies Thursday in the consolation round of the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City.

Aggie pitcher Jessica Slataper pitched the complete game shutout for A&M, allowing only three hits walking none in 23 batters faced. Tiger pitcher Stephanie Falk did not fare as well, allowing five hits and walking six in six innings pitched.

The Aggies drew first blood in the bottom of the first, when Crystal Martin hit a double to left center field that would score Kelly Ferguson from first base. They scored three more in the fourth inning off four hits and one Tiger error, and would hold on for the 4-0 win.

A lack of offense plagued the Tigers all year, being shut out 13 times during the course of the season. Despite the lackluster record, seniors Stephanie Falk and Karen Williams both had portfolio seasons. Falk struck out 195 batters and finished the year with a 1.29 ERA, and Williams led the team and was in the Top 10 nationally for her .429 batting average. Williams' hitting mark also earned her the all-time Missouri single-season batting average record.
