Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri softball team (29-26) took two from UMKC (18-32) Tuesday, defeating the Kangaroos, 4-0, and 6-0.
The Tigers didn't have any trouble putting the bat on the ball, recording six hits in the first game and nine hits in the second game. The Tiger defense also held strong, recording the shutout both games.
In the first game, the Tigers did all their damage in the second inning. McGinnis singled to the shortstop to lead off, then was advanced to second on a ball hit by Melanie Fisher. Erin Erickson singled to center field to drive in McGinnis, then stole second base as Fisher stole third. Kristen Burke walked to load the bases. Stephanie Falk then stepped to the plate and hit a single to centerfield that drove in Fisher. Erickson scored on an error by the catcher, and Falk advanced to second on the throw. Falk scored before the inning ended, and the Tigers took the 4-0 lead. They would hold the `Roos scoreless through seven innings to record the win. Falk pitched her 30th complete game, allowing eight hits and walking one in 29 batters faced.
In the second game, the Tigers would work even more quickly, scoring four runs in the first and one in the second to take the 5-0 lead. In the first, the runs were scored off a triple by McGinnis, a triple by Fisher, and an infield ground ball by Erin Erickson. In the second inning, Karen Williams came home from second base on a single to center field by Lindsey Jacoby.
The Tigers scored one more in the bottom of the fifth when Erickson scored from second base on a bloop single by Ricki Walker. The Tigers would hold on for the 6-0 win.
The Tigers finish their regular season Sunday, as they host arch-rival Kansas at 1 p.m. Kansas won the first meeting of the two teams this year, 6-1.
