Columbia, Mo. -- For the second-staight week, the University of Missouri baseball team (25-17-1, 10-14 Big 12) will play five games in six days. However, this week has a twist as all five games will be played on the road. One game, Wednesday's wood bat contest against Saint Louis, will be played at a neutral site and the rest of the games will see Missouri as a visiting team.
Upcoming Schedule: The Tigers will spend next week on the road and have their first televised game of the 2001 season Saturday at Kansas State. Here's a look at the Tigers' upcoming schedule:
*Tuesday, 7 p.m. -- at Saint Louis (19-21)
*Wednesday, 7 p.m. -- vs. Saint Louis at T.R. Hughes Ballpark, O'Fallon, Mo. - Wood bat game
*Friday (4/27), 3 p.m. -- at Kansas State (20-21, 6-15 Big 12)
*Saturday (4/28) , 3 p.m. -- at Kansas State (Fox TV broadcast)
*Sunday (4/29), 1 p.m. -- at Kansas State
The second Missouri/Saint Louis contest, also known as the second annual College Baseball Classic, will be played at the home of the Frontier League's River City Rascals. Rawlings Sporting Goods provides the wood bats for both teams. The game was originally held April 10 but was rained out in the fifth inning with the Tigers at the plate. The Fox TV broadcast of the Missouri/Kansas State game is the second contest in a five-game package the Big 12 Conference has on Fox. Yesterday's contest between Oklahoma State and Texas A&M was the first one televised.
Other contests include:
May 5, Texas A&M at Texas,
May 12, Texas Tech at Baylor, and
May 20, the Big 12 Tournament Championship game
The regular-season games will be shown either on Fox Sports Net's Southwest, Midwest or Rocky Mountain regions.
Probable Starters: Missouri has not made an announcement regarding the starting pitchers for this week's contests.
Saint Louis Notes: The Billikens enter the week with a 19-21 record and have a 8-10 mark in Conference USA action. Mike Orrico leads the team with a .357 batting average, nine home runs and 47 runs batted in. Orrico is one of four regulars hitting .326 or better. Ben Hutton is 5-3, has 70 strikeouts and has a 3.47 earned-run average to lead the pitching staff. Dan Shouse (4-3, 4.48 ERA) threw a complete game win on Sunday. SLU is coached by Bob Hughes.
