COLUMBIA, Mo - University of Missouri junior cross country star Ann Marie Brooks was selected to the first team of the University Division Verizon Academic All-American Team for the fall/winter seasons.
Brooks, a native of St. Joseph, Mo., is a two-time All-American and currently holds a 4.0 grade point average in plant science.
During the cross country season, Brooks finished 11th at the Big 12 Conference Championships in cross country and 12th at the Midwest Regional. She was a member of the women's indoor distance medley relay team that holds the number time in the world this season. Brooks is also an automatic qualifier in the outdoor 5000-meter run and has the second-best time in the country this season.
The Verizon Academic All-America Teams are selected by a vote of the 1,800-member College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). To be eligible, an athlete must be a varsity starter of key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Sports information directors nominate eligible athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted on the national level. CoSIDA has been selecting Academic All-America Teams since 1952.
