Stanford bests Mizzou in Final Day in the Desert

March 5, 2001

St. George, Utah - Mizzou (7-13) could not pull the upset Friday and were downed by the Cardinal 10-0.

The first score came in the fourth when Stanford second baseman Kira Ching scored off a sacrifice fly by Michelle Thiry. The Tigers would not answer the run, and the Cardinal would go on to score nine more in the fifth, ending the game after five innings of play.

The lone Tiger hit came off an infield single by sophomore Melanie Fisher.

Senior Stephanie Falk pitched four innings, allowing one run, four hits and striking out five. She was relieved by sophomore Ingrid Werner early in the fifth, but Werner would not find her groove from Saturday, allowing seven hits and four walks in the inning.

The Tigers will come home next weekend to host the Mizzou Round Robin with Iowa State, Indiana State, and Tennessee-Martin.
