The University of Missouri women's soccer team continued its strong spring showing on Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 win over Central Missouri State at Walton Stadium.
Adrienne Davis scored a goal and had several shots to lead Missouri's offense to a solid second half. After playing a scoreless 45 minutes, CMSU took the lead early in the second period with the first goal of the game in the 51st minute. Davis responded with 2 shots that were followed by a header by Melissa McLellan that bounced off the crossbar a mere 2 minutes later. In the 59th minute, Kathleen Wiley finally broke MU's scoring drought when she rebounded the second of 2 consecutive shots by Davis and scored. Davis added her goal 14 minutes later. Forward Kristin Boeker scored the Tigers final goal in the game.
MU defenders Kristin Gibbons and Dyana Russell kept the CMSU offense quiet and the Jennies' defenders packed the box to thwart the MU forwards.
"We're trying to learn a new system and I think we did a good job of that," said MU head coach Bryan Blitz. "I feel good about what we did out there today, we didn't get frustrated."
Following spring break, Missouri will return to action on Sunday, April 8, against Nebraska-Omaha at Walton Stadium.
